Hello, My son’s bed frame is made of solid unfinished pine and the natural wood scent is bothering him. Can you recommend a product that would best seal in this wood and eliminated the odor (as well as potential mold)? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
The safest thing to use in that situation is probably the Aqualine Satin.
Baby Safe Crib Finish is also great but it’s not the best for what you describe since it remains breathable. Some of the woods natural odor would likely still be discernible.
I would try a sample pint and test it to be sure.
Aqualine Satin has worked well for many people with chemical sensitivities, and it should be able to dramatically slow down any off gassing from the bed.
If this was a very severe reaction, I would seal the whole bed with NanoTech x 3 coats to try and block in as much of the pine as possible.
I use the NanoTech myself over things that I have reactions to and it always works great for me. It is a tighter molecular formation than most coatings which helps with odors.

But again, whenever a child’s health is affected, I would be sure to test a sample pint first.
Earthpaint is in no way liable for unintended uses of this information. Sample Pints are recommended. Please, create a completed sample board for approval in advance. Test as deemed appropriate to make sure no allergic sensitivities exist. Be sure to Read TDS (Technical Data Sheets), MSDS (Manufacturer Safety Data Sheets) Labels, How To’s and Product Web Page before using recommended products.
