Hi,
Is there any reason to apply more than 2 coats of Mountain XT at one time? Will that make the coating last longer?

I would see how it looks after 2 coats. That should be plenty. I wouldn’t apply more than 4 coats.
The Mountain XT Clear 00 holds up well in part because it is weatherable.
For instance, if a thick epoxy were applied, it would peel.
So, I would apply a good, solid film of Mountain XT Clear 00 but not more than necessary.
Exterior wood does best with maintenance coats as needed.
