What Is The Best Product To Use In Your Home For Mold Contamination?

Hi EarthPaint,
I’m remediating areas of my 1975 home that have tested positive for mold contamination. I’m having some health issues and our goal is to remove the mold and seal the surfaces to prevent future exposure. We believe we’ve eliminated the sources (plumbing leak in crawl space repaired plus we added a continuous running dehumidifier in the basement). Most of the work we’ll need to do is in the basement but some in the attic and under the kitchen sink.

The bare wood rafters in the basement and attic require cleaning to remove/kill mold plus sealing. Both spaces are unfinished but we’d like to partially finish the basement with painted ceilings and walls and luxury vinyl plank, for an exercise space. Nothing fancy, just bright clean space. There are no active leaks.

Please advise which products you recommend. We’re confused about bleach vs peroxide (seems like neither work for bare wood). And aren’t sure which primers/paints to use.

Thank you,
Earthpaint Customer

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us about your situation!  This is why we are passionate about Lime Prime and Lime Seal for mold remediation projects.  They work synergistically as a natural mold remediator.  If there is no water entering the area you may want to protect with both products.  If you need the area breathable because water will infiltrate then we recommend Lime Prime only to allow that area to breathe.  It sounds like you have been working hard and since there are so many variables with each situation it is best to read the links to see what pertains to you.

We have many customers who just use Lime Prime in the basement.  It comes in white or primer gray.  It is light, bright and gets the job done.  If you decide to topcoat then you can choose from more colors and have a strong bond with both products as long as there is not any water permeating.

We would recommend Earthclean for preparing the wood from mold stains.

We recommend using Earthpaint Technical Data Sheets as a guide for coverage, application, dry times, basic how to’s for your project.

We always recommend testing ahead of time. We sell samples on our website.
Best wishes
